Jerky Playback?
      #18 - 12/06/02 11:05 PM

Hi,

ESSC's features, especially being able to play accompanying audio, are exactly what I'm looking for! However, my initial attempt with the demo plays back poorly. Fading in from black, the image presents in a slow series of block transfers. It displays each increasingly brighter version of the image with about a one-second pause between them. Hard to describe, just not a smooth fade. Fade to black goes fairly smoothly. Audio also pauses during fades. Is this maybe just a fault of the demo? Images are 1MB JPEGs and audio is 18MB MP3. I tried without audio, same problem with fade. Rebuilt project with fade off. Images ok but audio still pausing between slides. Also wrote to another file (CD-ROM feature) and ran with the viewer from those files. Same problem. PC is 800 Mhz Athlon, GeForce Ti4200 video, generic soundcard and NT SP6. Any ideas?

Sorry... Didn't see the FAQ that came with ESSC. Judging from the third question I'd guess my images are too big. I'll experiment some more.

i had the same problem but only when i tried to playback the slideshow on other machines.it ran perfectly on my machine but i have a lot of horsepower. when i tried to run it on other machines with less less memory, smaller cpu etc, i got he jerky display and the timing of the background music to the pictures was way off. i thought the problem was the jpg size so i compressed them. it didn't help period. the problem was the resolution. i was using pics that had a resolution of 1600x1200. when i reduced the resolution, then the smoothness came back for the pic display on other machines although i still had to adjust the display times in the slideshows to make the music timing to pic display match. if you have windows xp go to the microsoft website, get the image resizer for xp powertoy and you have the resolution problem solved.
