Mouse Tamer Functionality
      #760 - 12/16/07 11:02 PM

I haven't purchased Mouse Tamer yet and so I was wondering if it's the right software for us to use. Can anyone help me out by letting me know if the software has the following features:
1. I need to login to a website and download data for a certain date range. The site takes a date range as input and so I would like to know if I can dynamically set the start date for that range as today minus one day and the end date to the same date, so I can always pull yesterday's data.
2. The computer that the resulting daily automated task runs on needs to be locked the rest of the time, so can the first step of the task be to unlock the PC (CTL-ALT-DEL) and then automate the login by entering the username and password. It would then launch IE and login to the website to download the report data.
3. After the data is downloaded, it needs to be saved with a file name that is part static and part dynamic (contains yesterday's date) each day the automated task is run.

So, can the software handle these issues?

Thanks much.

Hi, Unfortunately, I don't think MT is the tool for you. I see a couple of significant challenges that would be difficult to overcome. Setting the date dynamically would require you to generate the MT script with another script such as a Perl script or VB script and then launch MT with that generated script. The ctrl+alt+del sequence would also cause a problem because of the "scope" of how MT runs. It would not register with the system on the login screen because it would be running in your desktop environment and the system would ignore it from the login screen. Hope that helps, thanks--
