Best Picture Size for Show
      #561 - 06/15/05 11:12 AM

I have over 700 pix for a slide show I'm creating. They have been taken with about 3 different cameras all varying in Megapixels. 1.2 up thru 5.0. I know that I should resize the larger files...and am using a program called AxiomX PicSizer to do this...but can't determine what is a decent size to resize them to. Some are as large as 4,300kb's others are 17kb's. I don't want to lose too much of the picture quality since this show will be projected onto a large screen. Anyone have any suggestions? I know that the show will run more smoothly if the pix are not eating all the resources... Thanks!

If you know the resolution of your target system that you will be using to project the show, I would suggest sizing the pictures down to that resolution. For example, if you're going to project 1024x768, then don't bother having pics larger than that resolution because it will end up being wasted resources. Sizing the pictures down is different than dithering. Sizing them down should not affect their quality. If you have to dither them as well, then you could lose quality, but if you have a good program to do the dithering, it may not be that noticeable. In Photoshop for example, the "save for web" feature works very well and usually you can get a drastic reduction in file size with minimal loss of quality (when displaying on a screen and not printing on paper).
