very high processor usage on Mac

i just downloaded easy slide show creator, to try to make a presentation for a friend. even when in the background, this program uses between 60% and 70% of the processor (and makes the fan kick in)! i.e. while typing this my cpu is now used for 100% all the time.
Is there any reason for this? - could you fix this? i'm using the Mac version.
