User Preferences

On this screen, you may customize the Key Advantage Typing™ options for your user. If you don't like your username, you may change it here. Just be sure to choose a new username that nobody else has chosen already. You must also be sure to only use letters, numbers, spaces, dashes or underscores. To change your username, click the 'Change Name' button. A small window will appear. Type your new username in the box and then click the 'Submit' button. You can click the 'Cancel' button if you decide not to change your username. You can also select what keyboard you would like to use. Click either the QWERTY or Dvorak boxes to choose your preferred keyboard. By default, the next character to type during the higher lessons will be underlined. If you find this to be distracting, you can turn this option off by clicking the 'No' button next to this option. In the higher lessons, your speed is being tracked as well as your accuracy. If you would like to see a clock timer during these lessons, click the 'Yes' button next to this option. When beginning a lesson that is timed, a countdown animation is played which gives you 5 seconds to get your hands in place before the lesson timer starts. If you would prefer to just start the lesson immediately, you can turn this option off by clicking the 'No' button next to it. During earlier lessons, you can view a counter of how many keys you still need to type by selecting 'Yes' for the 'When taking un-timed lessons, would you like to see the key counter?' option. With 'No' selected for this option, no counter will be displayed. By default, there will be 1 space after a period (or other sentence-ending punctuation). If you prefer to use 2 spaces after a period, you can set that option here by either clicking the 'One' or the 'Two' box next to this option. KEy Advantage Typing uses two learning styles for lower level lessons. Type A displays all of the characters for that lesson at once, and type B allows you to type one character at a time. Just check the box next to the style you prefer. Lastly, check 'No' next to 'Do you want the program interface to animate' if you would like the interface pages to appear immediately instead of waiting on them to animate onto the screen. This will also improve performance on slower machines. Rolling over these options with your mouse will make a more detailed description appear in the lower portion of the screen. When you click the 'Back' button to return to the 'Lesson Home' screen, your preferences will be stored and remembered for future lessons.
