Editing a Recipe

You may edit all the properties of a recipe that you've already created. When you click the "Edit Recipe" button on the main screen, you will be taken to the "Edit Recipe" screen.

The name of the current recipe will appear at the top of the screen. If you would like to change this name, click directly on the name or on the small "edit" icon next to it. A pop-up window will appear and give you a place to type in the new name. Just click the "Done" button after you're done typing the new name.

The number of servings is also displayed at the top of the screen. To change this number, click directly on the number or on the small "edit" icon next to it. A pop-up window will appear and give you a place to type in the new serving value. Just click the "Done" button after you're done typing the new value.

In the middle of the screen, you will find the ingredients list. If you have many ingredients, you may use the green "up and down" arrows to scroll through the list. When you select an ingredient by clicking on it, its nutritional information will appear in the boxes toward the bottom of the screen. Selecting an ingredient also makes it possible to edit or delete that ingredient. When you click either the small "edit" icon or the "trash can" icon next to the list, you can edit or delete the ingredient you've selected. To edit an ingredient, you can also double-click the ingredient in the list (which may be more convenient). When deleting an ingredient, RA2 will confirm the deletion with you and then permanently delete that ingredient from your recipe. When you edit an ingredient in your recipe, a pop-up window will appear that will give you the chance to change how the name of the ingredient appears, the amount, and the unit. New values for the name and amount may simply be typed into those fields. To change the unit, click directly on it, and your choices will appear. Select your new choice for unit with your mouse, and it will appear in the unit field. When you're done making changes, click the "Done" button. The "Cancel" button will make the pop-up window go away without making any changes.

You may also change the order in which your ingredients appear. In Windows, the easiest way to do this is to right-click directly on the ingredient you wish to move (or you can also press the CTRL key and click normally with your mouse). With a Macintosh computer, press the COMMAND key on your keyboard, and click on the ingredient. A box will appear giving you choices of a position for this ingredient. Select the new position by clicking on it and the order of your ingredients will be changed.

The directions for this recipe also can be found in the middle of the screen. If you want to edit the directions, click directly on them or on the small "edit" icon next to the field. You can use the small green "up and down" arrows to scroll through the directions. When you edit the directions, a pop-up window will appear and give you a place to type the directions. Click the "Done" button when you are finished making your changes.

In the lower right-hand corner of the screen, you will notice a place for a picture. You can add photos of your recipes to RA2, and these photos will be displayed whenever you edit your recipe in the program or look at the recipe in your recipe web site. To add or change the picture for your recipe, click directly on the picture or on the small "edit" icon next to it. A pop-up window will appear. Click the "Browse" button to navigate to the picture file you wish to use. Once you've selected your picture, click the "Done" button. The picture you use should be 200 pixels wide and 150 pixels tall. Using the correct size of picture will help the program run quickly and smoothly and make the picture appear nicely in your recipe web site. If you plan to make a recipe web site, it's recommended that you only use gif or jpg formatted pictures. The program will accept gif, jpg, pict, and tif.

If you need to add more ingredients to your recipe, click the "Add Ingredients" button at the top of the screen. This will take you to another screen where you can search the database for ingredients to use. After adding an ingredient, you will be returned back to this "edit recipe" screen.

Click the "Done" button on the "edit recipe" screen to return to the main screen.
